Austin names newest parks and recreation director
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Jesús Aguirre has been appointed as the new director of the Austin Parks and Recreation Department, as announced by Austin City Manager T.C. Broadnax on Monday.
Experienced Leader in Parks and Recreation
With over 25 years of experience in parks and recreation, public education, and leadership roles, Aguirre brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position. He has previously held leadership roles in parks and recreation departments in Washington, D.C. and Seattle, as well as serving as the CEO of the Waterloo Greenway in Austin.
Selection Process
Community members had the opportunity to meet and hear from three finalists for the director role earlier this month, following a national search for qualified candidates. In his new role, Aguirre will oversee department operations, programs, facilities, and staff.
Educational Background
Aguirre holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and pre-medicine from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a master’s degree in business administration from Arizona State University. He is set to officially begin his tenure as PARD director on Jan. 12.
